Last month a great show was announced - Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails (NIN) announced that his band would tour this summer before going on hiatus for a much needed break. Reznor also announced a second act would join the tour -
Janes Addiction. Not only would Jane's Addiction be touring with NIN, but the band would reunite all original members.
As I started looking into tickets, I came across something interesting on the band's website
nin.com. Apparently Reznor had given some serious thought into ticket distribution for the summer tour. NIN had released their past two albums online for free, and their ticket distribution strategy pushes the envelope even further:
- Reznor fought a tough battle to gain access to 10% of all seats on the tour - not only that, but he got the best 10%.
- During a special pre-sale, fans registered at nin.com (which is free) can purchase tickets for these premium seats before the general public (including scalpers)
- Each ticket has the fan's name printed on it, and fans must enter the venue through a special entrance where their ID is checked to match the name on the ticket
Long story short, I have 2 tickets 10 rows up, dead center for this show, and am beyong excited! From
Reznor's blog:
NIN gets 10% of the available seats for our own pre-sale. We won a tough (and I mean TOUGH) battle to get the best seats. We require you to sign up at our site (for free) to get tickets. We limit the amount you can buy, we print your name on the tickets and we have our own person let you in a separate entrance where we check your ID to match the ticket. We charge you a surcharge that has been less than TicketMaster's or Live Nation's in all cases so far to pay for the costs of doing this - it's not a profit center for us. We have essentially stopped scalping by doing these things - because we want true fans to be able to get great seats and not get ripped off by these parasites.
